About Me…

“I will be a makeup artist!”

Born in Los Angeles, California, raised between Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico and Bentonville, Arkansas. When I was growing up, i was surrounded by all boys. My sister and I were the only girls in our family so we were pretty much tomboys. I had never seen myself getting into the makeup industry, even though my grandma owned 3 salons.

I felt like it was not for me. I never even wore makeup.  I wanted to be an archaeologist tomb raider style. But I realized how expensive this career was and decided to adjust my goal. So I began to study international relations. I also started taking Mandarin, Italian and already fluent in Spanish and English with a elementary level french under my belt, I thought why not be multilingual. (This is still a goal of mine!)

However International Relations was not what I was expecting and was really struggling with what I wanted to be. One day while on the job, our computer system crashed, pausing our work. My Co-Worker and friend was bored and asked me if she could practice doing makeup on me. I said "sure" bored my self. When she was done I looked into a mirror and it was as if the heavens had opened up and my purpose in life was revealed.

“I will be a makeup artist!”

As soon as I got home, I went directly to you tube and made list of products to buy. My first palette was the Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna Palette. But with this, I also realized how expensive makeup. So while standing around pondering what products to buy at Sephora, I was tapped on the shoulder and asked if was looking for a part time job. My eyes had gone wide, this had to be a sign!

I said yes and immediately applied. Sephora was an opportunity for me to learn, get amazing discounts and get gratis aka free products. It was a no brainer.

And thus my journey as makeup artist began.

At the time I already worked a 40 -50 hr job, I was a project coordinator and worked remotely for the east coast. My time to wake up was at 3:00 AM and my shift would end sometimes right at 3:00 PM. I would then get ready and work at sephora from 5:00 PM -9:00 PM. I was determined to learn and to get myself out there. You see, I didn’t start applying makeup right away. Oh no, sephora has you train and go through certifications before you are allowed to touch faces.

After starting as a cashier at sephora, I would continue to practice at home and finally after 6 months of pestering my manager, I was able to start training in the color world and begin my certification process. Finally I had graduated and I was able to do full makeovers. After working 5 years at Sephora, I felt that I had maxed out what I could learn. I would start getting messages of people wanting to hire me for their prom’s and special events. It was time to move on and start my own business. Sephora taught me many things and it will always have a special place in my heart. It is the place that gave me the confidence to become the makeup artist that I am today.

Now I continue to take online and in person seminars to continue my training. Makeup is ever changing with the trends so it’s always good to know the newest techniques. I have attended online masterclasses with world renowned artist like:
